EOTC Week

On week 7 of term 1 the year 5's went to EOTC week. EOTC stands for Education Outside The Classroom.

On Moday, we went to the Orakei Marae. First, we all gathered in the hall (we had to take our shoes off). Then, somebody told us a little about Maori culture. After that, we split into two groups. The girls went with one lady to learn the poi dance and the boys went off to learn the haka. Learning the poi dance was a great experience because it was quite challenging since we had to control our pois. After practiced, we performed it to the other group. The boys literally SHOUTED!!!!!!!!!!!! This day was a fun start of EOTC week and I sure had some fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On Tuesday, we went to Treetop adventures. This was my favourite trip of the week because I liked the obsicles. When we got there, we got out harnesses and a safty lecture. One of the park staff showed us how to use the carebeanas. There were two carebeanas and one pulley. It was quite hard at first but nearly everyone got the hang of it throughout the day. The part I liked the best was when we got to the end of each course because we got to slide down the flying fox on our pullies. I REALLY WANT TO GO THERE AGAIN!!!!!

On Wednesday, we went to Waiatura Reserve to do Orieenteering. My mum came on the trip(she blamed me for picking the worst trip for her!!!!). There was not much to say about it except for it was SOOOOO TIRING AND THAT IT WAS THE WORST TRIP!!!!

On Thursday, we went to the wave pools. This was only a half day trip but I enjoyed it very much especially the hydroslide. The hydroslide was fun because it had alot of curvey ends and it had a dark tunnel that you went in near the end! I also liked being in the pool because when the waves came you would go up and down kind of like a roller-coaster!

Garden to Table

Garden to Table is a school activity for the year 4's and 5's. The purpose of this activity is to learn how to cook and help in the garden. Our two Garden to Table teachers are Mrs Masters and Mrs Silvester.Mrs Masters is our gardening teacher and Mrs Silvester is our cooking teacher.

On the 24th of March, we had our 3rd Garden to Table lesson. This was the last lesson of the term. My group was in the kitchen and we made leek cooked with egg. First, we boiled the eggs and chopped the leeks. Then we started making our cheese sauce. Next, we cooked our leeks. The smell was SO GOOD! After that we topped the leeks with the sauce and put it in the oven. The last step was to sprinkle parsley over it! IT WAS DELICIOUS!

On the 19th of May, we had our 4th Garden to Table lesson. Somehow, my group was in the kitchen again but it was fun. My group made cheesecake. First, Joel and I spreaded baking paper into the cake tins while Fynn and Emily C weighed out the cheese, butter and grated the sides of an orange. Then we put the ingrediants in the blender. After that, we tipped the cake mixture into the cake tins and went to morning tea. After morning tea, we baked the cheesecake and started to clean up. Then.......................... WE ATE!!! I liked the curry the best and the cheesecake.

On the 25th of August, I was in the kitchen. We made pasta. First chopped up all the veges. I chopped up the chilli. Then we cooked the pasta and ATE! The other groups made cabbage soup and lemon jelly
